Study the Science of Mind and discover Buddhism as a path of liberation!
All are welcome to the Foundational Buddhism study course, also known as Hinayana 201 View. This in-person class meets every second Saturday morning.
Foundational Buddhism explores core teachings of the Buddha’s “First Turning,” the journey of individual liberation. Topics include the Four Noble Truths (suffering, causes of suffering, liberation from suffering, and the path); the five skandhas (the basis for clinging to an existent self); dependent origination (the 12 nidanas); and the formation of karma. Views of the two principal schools of early Buddhism will also be introduced (the Sautrantikas and Vaibashikas).
Nalandabodhi study groups are friendly and interactive! Feel free to attend even if you haven’t completed the Introduction to Buddhism series.
BTW: If you’ve previously taken Nalandabodhi’s Hinayana courses, you’re welcome to join or drop into these classes free of charge.
Facilitators: Karunika Susan Stewart will be the main teacher. Susan is on Nitartha Institute’s faculty and is a senior student of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. She has lead study classes at Nalandabodhi Vancouver for many years.
Anne Marie Weiss has been a student of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche since 2005. She has attended Nitartha’s Summer Institute for many years and co-facilitated Nalandabodhi study groups since 2021. She loves the interactive nature of in-person classes and looks forward to continuing this in the fall.
