Study group: Foundational Buddhism Part 2 (Hinayana 202: Path & Fruition)

Sat., February 8, 2025
10:00 am - 11:30 am
Nalandabodhi Vancouver – Maitrivana

Discover Buddhism as a path of liberation!

This study course is the second in Nalandabodhi’s Foundational (Hinayana) curriculum. The class will meet in-person every second Saturday morning beginning Feb. 8, 2025 (10 am to 11:30 am).

Foundational Buddhism 202 (Path and Fruition) examines a range of profound topics: the importance of taking refuge; the practice of non-violence; meditation techniques of shamatha and vipashyana; and the paths of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas schools.

Hinayana is known as the foundational vehicle, the basis for entering the path according to Vajrayana Buddhist traditions. In this stage of dharma study, we take a courageous look at our personal unease and suffering, as well as our comfort and happiness. By working with these experiences, we learn to step away from confusion and to move towards truly helping ourselves and others.

Nalandabodhi study groups are friendly and interactive! Feel free to attend even if you haven’t completed the Introduction to Buddhism series or previous Foundational class.

Please note: Students registering for this course should be familiar with basic Buddhist concepts.

Facilitators:  Susan Chapman has been studying and practicing the dharma for over 50 years, including 9 years at Gampo Abbey participating in and leading the three-year retreat. Her teachers have included Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Thrangu Rinpoche, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, and Ani Pema Chodron. She’s currently a student of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. Susan is the author of two books: The Five Keys to Mindful Communication and Which Way is Up?

Anne Marie Weiss has been a student of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche since 2005. She has attended Nitartha’s Summer Institute for many years and co-facilitated Nalandabodhi study groups since 2021. Anne Marie loves the interactive nature of in-person classes and looks forward to continuing this in 2025.
