An evening with Charles Manson, author of “The Second Karmapa Karma Pakshi”

Wed., May 27, 2026
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Nalandabodhi Vancouver – Maitrivana

Nalandabodhi Vancouver is delighted to host an evening with scholar-practitioner Charles Manson, author of The Second Karmapa Karma Pakshi: Tibetan Mahasiddha (Shambhala 2022).

In his talk and slideshow, Charles will explore how the 2nd Karmapa, Karma Pakshi, established the famed succession lineage of Tibetan lamas. Born in the 13th century CE, Karma Pakshi travelled the Silk Roads, taught meditation to two Mongolian emperors, and was even arrested and exiled by the emperor Kublai Khan. To this day, Karma Pakshi’s innovations, meditations, and legacy remain fundamental to how we understand Vajrayana Buddhism.

The event is onsite at Maitrivana. Open to all and free (offerings welcome).

About the Book: “Manson examines . . . Karma Pakshi’s various writings, which betray the personality of a rich and lively thinker who traveled widely, met many people and garnered widespread devotion, and had a wide range of religious interests. His compositions are important sources for a glimpse into the thought of a powerful ecclesiastic innovator and leader in medieval Tibet.” —  Raymond Lam (BDG 2023)

The Second Karmapa Karma Pakshi: Tibetan Mahasiddha is available at Banyen Books or may be purchased online: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/561744/the-second-karmapa-karma-pakshi-by-charles-manson/9781559394673
