With online opening talk by Mitra Lee Worley
Tuesday, March 7 • 7:00–8:45 pm PST
In Person at Maitrivana & Online via Zoom
Dear friends and members of Nalandabodhi Vancouver,
Please join us for Chötrul Düchen on Tuesday, March 7th (7:00 – 8:45 pm). This is the first of our four traditional Buddhist holidays.
Virtuous activities are especially beneficial on this day, when karma is said to be multiplied innumerable times. Chötrul Düchen is certainly a great day for dharma practice!
Miracles and Devotion
Please join us for an online talk in which Mitra Lee Worley will examine the nature of devotion and its relationship to miracles. What is devotion? What is its object? How is devotion different from ordinary attachment? And what role do miracles play? Can we actually see a miracle without some measure of devotion?
Mitra Lee’s teaching will begin at 7:00 pm PT to be followed by liturgical practice, in-person at Maitrivana, and online via Zoom. All are welcome.
Mitra Lee’s talk and the subsequent liturgical practice will be conducted in English language. Liturgy will be screen-shared.

What is Chötrul Düchen?
Chötrul means “Miracles” and Düchen means “Great Occasion.” This holiday, Great Occasion of Miraculous Manifestations, occurs on the fifteenth lunar day of the first month in the Tibetan calendar, marking the first full moon of the lunar year. This period celebrates Buddha Shakyamuni’s fifteen days of consecutive teachings accompanied by many miracles that increased devotion and deepened the spiritual realizations of his followers.
Although the practice of holidays at Nalandabodhi follows and is informed by tradition, they have been and will continue to be transformed by our 21st century minds and traditions. The main emphasis is on gathering together in a relaxed way to appreciate and celebrate. Generosity, mindfulness, and practice on these Düchen days are strongly encouraged.
We celebrate Chötrul Düchen to strengthen our devotion; and we look very forward to coming together with you all, in heart and mind, to celebrate and pay homage on this most auspicious occasion.
We look forward to seeing you at the Garden of Loving Kindness.
