Dear Nalandabodhi Members and Friends,
In response to the request of our local Nalandabodhi Vancouver leadership, Lama Rabten has kindly agreed to dedicate the next Nyinthün program to the practice of Shamatha meditation. Shamatha meditation, also called calm-abiding or resting meditation, is a practical method to settle the mind and bring forth its natural qualities of spaciousness, clarity, and attentiveness. Lama Rabten will spend the day leading the meditation sessions and giving instructions. In the words of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche: “Resting the mind in freshness without distraction means that we rest in a state of awareness of the present moment.” The program will incorporate both sitting meditation as well as walking meditation. For those who wish to engage in walking meditation, it is recommended that we set up our computer/mobile device in such a way that makes walking around not too difficult. In other words, you will need sufficient space to do walking meditation. Please join us in learning about and experiencing this essential practice—the foundation of all Buddhist meditation. |
